Work and life in the Twin Cities

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

It seems that everywhere I go the same problems nag me – specifically, I can’t seem to get enough hours, wherever I work. Got Junk, my current employer, has been slowing down to the point that I’m not getting nearly the amount of time in at work that I would like. This is becoming a frustrating problem, because it’s a difficult one to solve. Technically, I’m full time, but I’m not getting full time hours. I could probably find another job and change around my schedule so that I’m working both, but once I finally pulled that off I would be half way through summer, and at that point why bother? It seems that the only logical thing to do is to avoid spending as much as possible, fight for all the hours I can get, and work on getting FAFSA done.

An advantage to working fewer hours than expected is that I might be able to do some kind of internship or work related to my MURP. I’m thinking I’ll contact the League of Minnesota Cities, and see what they have available. That might be fun.

Moving!

Moving… is not fun.  Marla and I have taken 2 separate trips now back and forth between Morris and the twin cities.  The second trip wasn’t awful; we were each driving our own cars and didn’t have any time pressure.  The first trip was much less fun.  We were under the gun the whole time, and I was driving an ancient Suburban that didn’t exactly want to stay on the road.  However, as of today, pretty close to our entire household is in the new apartment, so life is good.

Now for the rest of the fun summer activities – getting married, getting student loans, trying to make enough money – It’s going to be a busy summer.
